German rubbish dump turned into a solar farm #energy #renewable #solar #PV

What is most interesting about the new solar photovoltaic (PV) array, which will provide over 1,000 households with environmentally-friendly electricity, is that it is located on a former waste disposal site. It has a surface area of 8.2 hectares and yields a total output of 4,498 KWp. The plot was made available for the solar farm by Abfallwirtschaftszweckverband Ostthüringen (a joint association for the waste management of East Thuringia), after it was decided that it was not suitable for any other use because it was contaminated by waste. "Cooperation with all local partners, in particular with the Abfallwirtschaftszweckverband and the local authorities was extremely good,” reports WKN Project Manager, Marc Timmer.
