When most people think about solar power they imagine rooftop solar installations on houses or schools and sometimes the larger solar power plants that have become increasingly common. The conception is not entirely wrong, as the Solar Energy Industries Association reports that 58 percent of new solar installations in 2010 came from the residential and utility sectors. However, the farming community has emerged as an important new segment of the solar industry. As the new concept of solar leasing illustrates, solar installations require land first and foremost, and farms have that in abundance. Most of that land is tied up with crops that depends just as heavily on solar energy, but as electricity prices rise solar installations have begun to seem like a more appealing investment...
