Vietnam must improve policy for wind power take-off: @GWECGlobalWind, wind sector companies say.

Despite an acute need for new power generation and abundant wind resources, Vietnam is far from meeting its own wind power targets, the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and leading companies in the sector say, recommending several policies for the industry to take off in the South-East Asian country. "We're here to help Vietnam realise the many benefits from developing its wind power sector: clean, affordable power for economic development; enhanced energy security; and the creation of leading edge technology and jobs", GWEC secretary general Steve Sawyer said as the council and industry players are gathered in Hanoi for the country’s first wind power conference. Vietnam has some of the richest wind resources in the region, but its current cumulated wind power capacity of only 197MW is far from a target of 800MW by 2020 and 6GW by 2030, GWEC, OEMs Siemens Gamesa and Vesta...
