Chilean power company Colbún won a 30-year land tenure concession from the national government to develop a 607MW wind power complex in the northern Chilean town of Taltal, in the Antofagasta region. The company was the winner of tender of 7,945 hectares of government land that has been set aside for the development of renewable energy projects, which was started last year. Since 2014, the government has leased out over 39,000 hectares of land that has been destined for the construction of over 7GW of renewable energy projects, not all built yet. The government will receive 528 million Chilean pesos ($713,000) a year from the lease of the land. Colbún will now undertake economic and environmental feasibility studies during four years to detail the 607MW project known as Horizonte.
