Anything above 50mph is going to negatively affect fuel economy because that is the approximate aerodynamic cross over point where drag makes it harder for the vehicle to cut through the air efficiently. I have repeatedly tested this concept in different vehicles, and going about 50mph on the freeway/ highway in the right lane can substantially boost your fuel economy. Most vehicles sold to consumers are not designed to efficiently sustain high speeds (if they were the aerodyanmics would be very different, and the vehicles would look different as a result). If you study the average driver in North America, the vast number of hours they log in their vehicles are at much lower speeds. If someone has a highway commute like this, they should have done more research to figure out that a turbo-diesel sedan would return much greater fuel economy at 75MPH.
