Hybrid Battery Inventor Stanford Ovshinsky Dies At 89

Few people know the story of how Ovishinsky invented the amorphous silicon transistor and then couldn't get anyone to believe he had done it. He spent an immense amount of time trying to get someone with credentials to buy off and help him understand what was happening. Finally a professor at UM decided that it would make a great example for his class in phys 101 on quackery. So he had Ovishinsky in, and kept breaking down and reestablishing the test rig and making new transistors. When he became convinced it was real, they began filing patents, and this was ovishinsky's first partner. Stan ovishinsky combined creativity with persistence and passion and helped make our world a better place.
