Life After Brexit: What Happens Now?

Thanks to you and Kieran for your thoughtful comments. Democracy is a messy business. Even though the US is constantly beating its chest about democracy, the truth is the people who wrote our constitution were deathly afraid of pure democracy, which is akin to nothing more than mob rule. They designed the constitution with great care to avoid that result. That’s why we have the most undemocratic way imaginable to elect our presidents. It is called the Electoral College and it is designed specifically to leaven the unfettered power of the electorate. So much of the Brexit vote is about xenophobia, refugees, and keeping “them” from getting in. We are seeing the same thing here in the US as the fearful flock to Donald Trump to protect them with walls and bullets. Bob Dylan once sang “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” And clearly, the political win...
