Study: Energy usage attributable to electric vehicles could rise 1,700% by 2020

I tend to agree. There's a enormous amount of wasted capacity at night. Really, my opinion is it will probably be quite a while before there are enough electric vehicles on the road to use up all the available night-time capacity. It seems that electric vehicles hold promise to be beneficial to the grid, as they will help soak up some of this excess night-time capacity and perform somewhat of a load-leveling effect. Let's keep it simple - how about if the electric utilities simply offer each EV owner, in exchange for a lower rate for their electric service, a device connected to their charging station that can shut it off by remote control during times that the electric utility needs to reduce demand. Some utilities already do this for people's air conditioners. For example, So Cal Edison gives me a rebate every month during the summer in exchange for me giving them permis...
