This weekend there will be many a good reason to ditch the car (or at least the combustion car) as a series of events strive to draw our attention to alternative modes on transport. World Car-Free Day takes place this Saturday (as we’ve already mentioned this week-see story ) and it is not just this event should inspire you to hide the car keys-it is also European Mobility Week (16-22 September) which culminates with a ‘In Town without my Car’ event this weekend. As part of the event, cities have to set aside at least one area just for the use of pedestrians, cyclists and public transport to encourage visitors to leave the car on the drive. In the UK, participating towns include Nottingham, Peterborough, Hackney and Bridgend.
