Joining a road train and ditching the monotonous motorway drive could be the future of driving-that’s the conclusion of a major European trial of the technology. As the SATRE project (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) draws to a close, project partners including Ricardo and Volvo conclude that this approach could indeed offer motorists a way to free themselves from driving, allowing them to spend a long journey reading, relaxing or using mobile devices- without any repercussions from the police. Road trains consist of a lead vehicle, in this case a truck, whose driver controls a platoon of following vehicles, leaving these drivers free to do as they wish.
