Nikkei: Honda to invest ¥30B to produce diesel cars in India

Nikkei: Honda to invest ¥30B to produce diesel cars in India 17 September 2012 The Nikkei reports that Honda Motor Co.will spend approximately ¥30 billion (US$384 million) to launch production of diesel cars in India in 2013. The automaker will also market a new subcompact car exclusively for the Brazilian market by as early as 2013. It will put a new plant into operation by 2015. Honda has thus far focused on the North American market and lags behind its rivals in cultivating emerging markets. In India, Honda will introduce a production line for diesel cars at its parts plant. The production line will have an annual capacity of around 60,000 units. Honda will also set up a diesel engine production line at the same factory. It will produce diesel versions of the Brio and City subcompact cars and market them in 2013.
