'Monster' Tajima drives Tesla Model S, wants one

I love the concept of an EV. I love the simplicity of the drivetrain, I love mountains of torque on demand, and yes--I also like that it's not spewing toxic crap out the tailpipe. But the simple fact of the matter is that these cars just aren't ready for mass consumption, and the big hindrance is battery technology. Batteries are nowhere near as energy-dense as gasoline, and they're heinously expensive, difficult to manufacture and take far too long to recharge most of the time. Until those problems are solved, we're just not going to see battery-powered EVs as a mainstream vehicle. Not taking anything away from Tesla here though. They've built a very good car for those well-heeled enough to own this car. I'd love to take one for a spin, but that probably won't ever happen.
