Proof of the growing popularity of small and fuel efficient vehicles is no better demonstrated than at the largest gathering of smart cars in the world. Over a thousand smart cars gathered in Antwerp, Belgium last week as smart time 2012 drew 1,594 smart fans from 27 countries. A parade of 1,114 vehicles drove through the streets of the Belgian city- Europe’s third largest European seaport-as part of the four day event. All CO2 emissions from the gathering of smart cars were mitigated by an investment in a carbon-offsetting scheme. In association with non-profit firm WeForest, the diminutive car firm will plant 5,200 trees in Kenya to compensate for the event.
