They mentioned something about not liking the traction control, and not being able to shut it off. They didn't really go into details, so it is hard to know what they meant. But that could be a major factor in skidpad numbers. It could also just be some steering/suspension angles are optimized for other goals other than pure performance. Sometimes just a few degrees of camber can make a huge difference on the skidpad, at the cost of worse tire wear, bump steer, pull, over steer, twitchy steering feedback, and more sudden loss of traction at high steering angles. Not all folks would be willing to make that trade-off. It may very well be that Tesla hasn't done performance suspension for their performance version of the Model S, and it is sprung more for everyday driving by design.
