Electric vehicles are in high demand in the city of Houston, Texas – and now Zipcar is responding to this surge in popularity by launching a municipal electric vehicle car sharing programme. The car sharing programme will involve 25 Nissan LEAF electric vehicles (pictured), featuring Zipcar’s proprietary fleet sharing technology. According to a recent survey, Houston boasts the third largest municipal hybrid fleet across the entire USA – around 50 per cent of the city’s non-specialist, light duty vehicles have been replaced with hybrid cars. Now it is hoped that Zipcar’s FastFleet car sharing platform, along with its online reservation system, with help the city boast new levels of efficiency and further reduce its costs.
