Mercedes-Benz, the subject of this month’s Manufacturer Spotlight , has continued its green car efforts by introducing a new five-seat A-Class hatchback (pictured) that is set to drastically reduce fuel consumption and reports CO2 emissions as low as 98g/km. The A-Class 180 CDI will be the first Mercedes-Benz to offer such low emissions; while the A-Class 220 CDI already meets the standards for Euro 6 emissions, which don’t come into force until 2015. Indeed all engines available for the A-Class include ECO start/stop as standard and can be combined with either a six-speed manual transmission or a 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission. It’s not just in terms of reducing emissions that the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class comes into its own, however: it also features a host of collision prevention and safety features.
