"Green Cars" Ford to double China passenger car capacity - The Chinese market continues to grow in importance in the...

The Chinese market continues to grow in importance in the automotive sector: and this has been reflected by Ford’s decision to make a substantial investment in the area. It will invest $760million into a new assembly plant in Hangzhou, China with a capacity of 250,000 units. The plant is scheduled to be opened in 2015 and will see Ford’s passenger car capacity double in the region to 1.2million units annually. The announcement comes on the back of Ford’s decision to invest $600million to expand its facilities in Chongqing by 350,000 passenger cars – and this less than six weeks after it opened Chongqing II, as the home of the new Ford Focus (pictured) – increasing Chinese passenger car capacity to 600,000 units.
