Despite enjoying some early success with the CODA Sedan (pictured), CODA Automotive has decided to abandon its plans to build a lithium-ion battery plant. According to a report in the Columbus Dispatch , the company had been waiting for confirmation of a $500million loan from the US Department of Energy to help with its construction. However, the Department of Energy has come under criticism for its loan to Solyndra – a solar panel maker that ultimately went out of business. As such, it is holding back on new loans. Only recently CODA leaders had said they were hopeful about the prospects of a loan agreement being reached – but they have developed a business plan that will work without the Ohio plant.
