Brits turning sedentary as we stop walking and reduce car journeys

Britain is becoming a nation of sedentary citizens, as a rise in online shopping and other lifestyle changes encourages people to give up walking and go out less. A new survey by the Department for Transport (DfT) has found that Brits are walking, cycling and driving less as we stay indoors even more than ever. According to The Telegraph , government statistics show a profound shift in the way we travel, with one in five people no longer taking any walks that last over 20 minutes, including 18 per cent of young people and children and almost half of those over 70 years of age. Britons are now taking a third fewer journeys on foot than 18 years ago, dropping from 292 trips in 1995 to 203 last year.
