Shell predicts death of combustion cars by 2070:

When an oil company predicts the end of the petrol and diesel car, you’d understand why we might sit up and take notice. That’s exactly what Shell has done with its New Lens Scenarios report, which tries to envisage how the world will change over the coming decades and how we’ll cope in a future where the global population will reach 9 billion by 2050. According to the report, Shell expects that ‘By 2070, the passenger road market could be nearly oil-free’ with electric and hydrogen vehicles largely replacing combustion models before the end of the century. Natural gas vehicles are also expected to make inroads in emerging economies and for the use of trucks. As the world’s population increasingly migrates into cities, it is expected that these more compact cities will offer savings on average of 2,000 vehicle-km per person per year from car use.
