GM named Solar Champion as it adds new 1.8MW solar array: A new 1.8 MW rooftop solar array on top of GM’s Tole...

A new 1.8 MW rooftop solar array on top of GM’s Toledo transmission plant in Ohio is expected to be completed next month. The car giant announces that its latest solar array consisting of some 21,000 solar panels will generate nearly 3 per cent of the plant’s overall electricity consumption when it goes live next month and will be the state’s biggest rooftop array of panels around. The energy produced will be enough to power 200 homes in the US. GM has also recently been recognised as a ‘Solar Champion’ by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) at its annual awards at Solar Power International 2013 in Chicago. By the end of the year, GM will have more than 40 megawatts of solar energy installed at its facilities globally with two of the five largest rooftop solar arrays in the world located at its Opel Rüsselsheim facility in Germany and its Zaragoza Assembly plant...
