Japanese carmakers team up for charging infrastructure

The biggest names in Japanese motoring have agreed to work together in an effort to boost the installation of a charging network for plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles across Japan. Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi have announced the agreement as recognition of the swift need to develop charging facilities and promote the use of electric cars. The four carmakers will bear the cost of installation for the charging facilities, along with subsidies from the Japanese government, and will work together with companies that are already providing charging services in which each has a financial investment. Currently, there are 1,700 quick chargers in Japan and just over 3,000 regular chargers: this is well short of the volume needed. In addition, there is said to be a lack of co-ordination between charging providers. The government in the country has since announced subsidies...
