Higher incidence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma found in regions near refineries and plants that release benzene 29 July 2013 The incidence of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) —any of a large group of cancers of lymphocytes (white blood cells)—is significantly higher in regions near facilities that release the chemical benzene into the environment, according to a new study published in CANCER , a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society. According to the US National Cancer Institute (NCI), there are many different types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. These types can be divided into aggressive (fast-growing) and indolent (slow-growing) types, and they can be formed from either B-cells or T-cells.
