27.7.2018 New research could see EV charging times plummet Battery developments by Cambridge University would benefit EV drivers The electric vehicle industry could benefit from new developments that will allow batteries to be charged in minutes rather than hours, from research carried out by scientists at Cambridge University. New materials known as niobium tungsten oxides allow lithium ions to move much faster through them, at 'rates that far exceed those of typical electrode materials'. The materials to not result in higher energy densities, but do allow for much faster charging applications. Results from Cambridge University's Department of Chemistry have been reported in the journal Nature, which show super-fast charging results.
