2013 Nissan Leaf gets 75-mile range (actually 84) in new EPA test

I haven't been able to scare up exactly what the EPA are up to, but if they have made the test for all electric vehicles based on a 80% capacity rating as well as 100% then they are doing some of the others a disservice. It is only Nissan that use a passively cooled battery, even Mitsubishi has active air cooling, and the chemistry they use, manganese spinel is far less robust than many others. There will be no need, for instance, to only charge the lithium titanate in the Honda Fit EV to 80%, at any rate if we are talking about comparable levels of capacity loss. and Daimler rate the Smart ED battery for 80% after 10 years, AFAIK without worrying about not charging fully, although to be sure that helps any battery. Hopefully what they are doing is just rating the Leaf in this way, as Nissan specifically advise that it should not be routinely charged over 80%. I suspect th...
