When it comes to green, what you buy matters more than where you live:

While I think consumption is very important, I'm a little worried that the study this is based on was done in Finland. With a smallish country and european transportation and vehicles, do rural residents there really use as much more transportation fuel as U.S. rural residents? I totally want to justify living in a cabin in the woods in Alaska (currently I'm in an efficient apartment in Anchorage), but until I can figure out how to not have to drive somewhere to work or get supplies, I think I'm better off with my bike in the city. Most of my consumption habits would not change with where I lived, even if my income drastically reduced (I don't buy much new or travel much anyway and the part of it that would go away might be better reduced by me becoming poor in the city than poor in the country!)
