Social Networking Saves Vancouver Island Dolphins - GoodCleanTech

When word spread over Facebook and Twitter that four dolphins were in a bay on Vancouver Island, dozens of helpful volunteers showed up to lend a hand. The Pacific white-sided dolphins were feeding in Oyster Bay, when a receding tide left them trapped in shallow, muddy waters. Before wildlife officials managed to ultimately save the dolphins and get them back into the ocean, volunteers showed up to pour buckets of water on the animals to keep them alive while they waited. In addition to a report on a local radio station, these volunteers heard about the dolphins' plight as the news spread across social networks like Facebook and Twitter. This allowed for a quick response that could very well have made the difference between life and death. All four dolphins survived the ordeal.
