Compressed Air Could Store Wind, Solar Power - GoodCleanTech: A company has developed a new type of technology t...

By the beginning of May, a company called SustainX secured a total of $20 million in funding for a new technology that could make wind energy much more efficient. Called compressed air energy storage, or CAES for short, the new tech involves using compressed air to store surplus energy produced by wind turbines. While this isn't an entirely new idead, the difference with SustainX is that the system has become significantly cheaper, thanks in large part to changes like being able to use off-the-shelf gas cylinders, as well as the elimination of the need to use gas-powered turbines to make the system work. In addition to wind energy, the company also says that the ethnology could be used to store solar power, as well. "The benefits to society are in the form of a more reliable grid, accelerated penetration of clean renewable energy sources, and reduced emissions from the gas...
