Palm oil labeling bill fails to pass in Australia mongabay.com June 19, 2011 A controversial bill that would have required manufacturers to explicitly label palm oil as an ingredient on food products will not be passed into law. In a decision Thursday, the Australian Senate's Community Affairs Legislative Committee ruled that the bill, as currently written, would require "circumventing the current regulatory environment". "The report found that while there was merit in the objectives of the Bill, it was not drafted to achieve these objectives without circumventing the current regulatory environment," stated the Community Affairs Legislative Committee.
