10,000 Syrian Refugees in Turkey; Troops Storm Another Town

Early Saturday morning, Syrian forces stormed Bdama, a town about 1.2 miles from the Turkish border. Soldiers fired machine guns and attacked with tanks, says the BBC . Saria Hammouda, a lawyer who lives in the town, says she counted counted nine tanks, 10 armored carriers, 20 jeeps and 10 buses and also saw shabbiha (pro-government fighters) setting fire to two houses. Bdama has been supplying Syrians trying to flee to Turkey with food and provisions. 10,000 Syrians have crossed the border into Turkey and thousands more are camping out as they seek to cross. As Rami Abdulrahman, of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told Reuters, Bdama's residents "don't dare take bread to the refugees and the refugees are fearful of arrests if they go into Bdama for food."
