Associated Press Activists protested the derailment of the Yucca Mountain project outside a town hall meeting in Reno, Nev., where President Obama spoke last month. House Republicans and some Democrats argued at a hearing on Tuesday that the chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission had introduced politics into the government’s consideration of a nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain . Others said this was hardly possible because the original choice of the site, in the Nevada desert, was nothing but politics to begin with. The Environment and Economy Subcommittee of the House Energy Committee spent an hour and a half hearing from Hubert Bell, the inspector general of the regulatory commission, who recently issued a report criticizing of the way the N.R.C.’s chairman, Gregory B.
