Could palm oil help save the Amazon?

Cleaning up palm oil production in Indonesia and Malaysia Palm oil producers in Indonesia and Malaysia have developed a particularly bad reputation in recent years due to ongoing concerns about deforestation, peatlands destruction, and social conflict. But the blanket generalization masks distinctions within the industry, where there are sharp differences between responsible companies and bad actors. Furthermore, initiatives like the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), are giving producers performance targets to help improve their operations. Some companies are starting to go beyond RSPO criteria.
