Journalism is usually at its best in the wake of disaster. The tragic scenes we are seeing on the airwaves and in the newspapers in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy are a bitter testament to that. Our hearts go out to the victims and survivors. At its best, the media also excels in helping explain the causes of a disaster in the days and weeks that follow.
