Government slashes red tape for green energy startups

The government has moved to inject further competition into the energy market, slashing the level of red tape faced by small energy suppliers such as leading green energy firms Ecotricity and Good Energy. Energy minister Charles Hendry announced today that, following a consultation exercise, the government has raised the threshold for energy companies being required to participate in the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT) and the Community Energy Saving Programme (CESP) programmes from 50,000 to 250,000 customers.
