"Enlightened enterprise"

With the right corporate leadership, responsibility and competitiveness can march together; since Marks and Spencer launched Plan A, there has been a race to green in the supermarket sector with each chain trying to outdo each other in its environmental credentials. Commercial flooring is a product with major environmental issues ranging from toxic materials to adding to the world's mountains of landfill. But companies like Interface and Desso - which has now committed itself to cradle to cradle up-cycling - are transforming industry and consumer expectations. In contrast the electronic communication industry - which seemingly encourages us to discard outdated laptops, phones and TVs every few months - makes it almost impossible to consume sustainably.
