Approaching 5th anniversary, 2,000th post, revisiting day one @dotearth: Why a Blog, and Why This Blog? #dotchat

Through 25 years of communicating about climate change, conservation, industry, farming, fishing, disasters, technology and other facets of humanity’s relationship with the home planet, I’ve become ever more convinced of two things: The strength of science lies in the trajectory of understanding more than in any single finding, and the most durable ideas emerge from conversation, not monologue. So for me, a blog offers an ideal way to interact with the world, and with an audience — one that tracks and tests ideas over time and has the feel of a jam session more than a formal, static solo performance (forgive the comparison; I’m a musician in spare moments). I’ve decided to focus Dot Earth on the broad-brush theme of sustainability for a few reasons.
