The nuclear debate is often devoid of details nor description of relevant technical safety matters in various types of nuclear reactor designs. This is an important matter, and nontrivial. Most nuclear reactor designs are fundamentally UNSAFE, that is most designs deployed worldwide. UNSAFE reactor designs are characterized by the potential of failure of the coolant for fuel operating at power densities which can cause metallurgical melting of the fuel rods and reactor containment vessel chamber walls, if the resulting molten fuel contacts the containment chamber walls. THAT intrinsic characteristic ( any possibility of nuclear fuel melting or containment wall melting ) is critical to assessing safety of a particular reactor design for civilian power use.
