Track Thieves Cause Train Derailment: 'Meth-head Recycling' Again?

Track Thieves Cause Train Derailment: 'Meth-head Recycling' Again? Railroad track segment. Image credit:Flickr, by boulanger.IE Bogus metals recycling has been a topic of interest on TreeHugger since 2007. Once the easy metal pickings get scarfed up, demand for even a base metal like steel will eventually return, tempting thievery that is occasionally amplified by the idiotic desperation of meth-addled thinking. Metal thieves would also have to be sociopaths to steal segments of actively used railroad ties. Apparently they have some scrappers who fit this description up in Taunton Mass; and, we can brace ourselves for more like this, as the meth and oxy problems are not going away without more stringent regulation of drug producers and distributors.
