Nine Peregrine Falcon Chicks Are NYC's Latest Immigrants

Peregrine falcon populations were devastated in the 1960s, largely due to the widespread use of DDT. Still listed on the New York State Department of Conservation's endangered birds list, the falcons have made a major comeback. Sixteen pairs of falcons (they mate for life and use the same nest each year) currently nest in NYC, estimates Chris Nadareski, of the NYC Department of Environmental Protection's Wildlife Studies division.
