Solar industry urges major government re-think

The Solar Trade Association (STA) will today call on the government to undertake a full review of its solar strategy, based on evidence which suggests that solar technologies in the UK could achieve cost parity with the grid by 2019 with the right policy environment. The industry body will reiterate its calls for the government to shelve plans to impose cuts of between 40 and 70 per cent on the feed-in tariff incentives available to solar installations with more than 50kW of capacity. In a surprise move, however, it will also say the falling cost of solar technologies means the industry would still be able to prosper if the government imposed a more modest 25 per cent cut to solar incentives.
