Germany confirms plan to ditch nuclear by 2022

Seem to remember being here before in the 1990's when the Greens blackmailed the coalition into a policy of closing all nuclear capacity. It never happened because the huge German wind capacity did not perform as the Greens had predicted and Dena insisted on retaining reliable baseload power. Even in 2010, with an extension of the life of existing nuclear, Dena was saying that new coal- and lignite-fired power stations were needed to stabilise the grid: "Demand increases and supply volatility arising from a growing share of erratic production from renewable sources still make new coal and gas-fired power stations necessary, Dena Managing Director Stephan Kohler said during a trade fair.
