My "middle, working class" grandchildren will have to work very hard to get academic scholarships and most likely attend community college before going on to a state university, but certainly not an "elite" school. These are the kids getting squeezed out of all the freebies that are now aimed at "the poor, disadvantaged, troubled" youth, that for the most part, choose not to go on to a higher education. I promise you that you can look and find a scholarship for just about every minority, ethnicity, alternate-lifestyle, first-time college attendee from family and on and on. What's not available are scholarships and grants for the Anglo, middle class male and female. One reason public school curriculum has become so watered down is so that the lower performing students can come up to the level of everyone else in the system.
