No man is an island, but thanks to record Mississippi flooding, lots of homeowners now are #climate #floods

John Donne (not Dunne), if I remember my 18 century poetry correctly. I’m reading Huckleberry Finn again and I noticed that Huck refers happily to the June rise of the Mississippi: “so I knowed the river had begun to rise. I reckoned I would have great times now if I was over at the town. The June rise used to be always luck for me; because as soon as that rise begins here comes cordwood floating down, and pieces of log rafts — sometimes a dozen logs together; so all you have to do is to catch them and sell them to the wood-yards and the sawmill.” Well, he’s up in Missouri/Illinois, and I’m no hydrologist so I’m not sure how that affects the timing of the rise, but this year it’s peaking in Louisiana in May. I wonder how many classic American literature references there are that show the impact of climate change? A project looking into this could be very interesting, and r...
