@Clifford Wells The aging of societies is something we're going to have to figure out how to deal with, whether people talk about population or not, because, as you say, it's already happening in developed countries around the world. But that doesn't mean we don't have a population challenge to deal with too. More people, especially in rich countries, means more carbon pollution, more demand for food and energy and everything else we consume, more pressure to develop natural areas, more of just about all of the problems environmentalists are concerned about. Finding ways to make societies function effectively with more older people and fewer younger people won't be easy, but we have to do it anyway, just like we have to figure out how to tackle climate change -- and, frankly, it'll be easier to rewrite the rules of society and politics than to rewrite the rules of physics....
