If your sweet tooth seems to be in charge of you and your eating habits, it may be time to tame it once and for all. And the timing couldn’t be better: a growing number of studies link sugar consumption to many serious health concerns. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association conducted by researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found that the calories from added sugar in a person’s diet is associated with a significantly increased risk of death from heart disease. The study also found that the higher the added sugar intake (particularly from sweetened beverages), the higher the risk of weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes, abdominal fat and high blood pressure.
