Electricity pylons: Like them or loathe them? #pyloncomp

TRANSCRIPT:The future is electric. We're going to need more electricity for our homes, we're going to need more electricity to power our vehicles in the future. And that means taking electricity from where it's being generated: through renewable resources, offshore and where the wind blows, to our homes. Some of it is going to be underground cables in sensitive areas, clearly, and in urban areas. But we are going to need more overground cable and it is important that we get the look of that as right as we can. This design dates back to 1927 and i think it has served its purpose and stood us in good stead, but with the advances that we have in metals and other engineering knowledge, we ought to be able to do better. And so this competition is designed to find the leading-edge pylon design that will stand us in good stead for the next 80 years. The details of the competition...
