Big Ag industry spin: Bad for your health, and the environment

As communications director at the California Strawberry Commission, I was surprised to see the commission called out in this article, since I had not heard from the author of this article. The commission represents all strawberry farmers in California, who pay into the commission, and determine the program and budget allocations. The majority of the commission’s budget is allocated to production research and grower education, particularly focusing in on research to reduce pesticide use, including the farming without fumigants initiative, and integrated pest management. Education programs are related to implementing food safety, irrigation management and integrated pest management practices, as well as training crew supervisors on sexual harassment prevention, heat illness prevention, and other farm safety issues.
