Calorie Consumption of European Countries (Infographic)

While the U.S. is well-known as a country with an obesity epidemic , you might not know that many European countries are also increasingly struggling with the problem of obesity. The World Health Organization reports that, in many European countries, obesity rates have tripled since the 1980s. A new interactive infographic, created by Column Five Media for Confused.com, compares the average caloric intake per person per day for 27 countries throughout Europe. Surprisingly, the infographic shows Austria as the country with the highest calorie consumption, with the average citizen consuming 3,800 calories per day (149% over the daily recommendation). Austria is closely followed by Greece, with an average of 3,710 calories per day, and Belgium, with 3,690 calories per day.
