Just a note, about my own civil disobedience: To advance the issue, I let the local ABC News affiliate film my chickens and do a segment about them and the city's ban on backyard chickens for the nightly news. Within a week, I had a letter from the city telling me to get rid of the chickens. So civil disobedience might have to be done quietly... unless you're willing to make an example of yourself, let the city force you to get rid of your chickens, and then use that to get extra sympathy and attention to the issue. But once you have chickens in your life, if you love them as much as I do, it would be unbearable to give them up. The downside to keeping illegal chickens quietly, of course, is that then it's hard to get attention to the issue to get a groundswell of support asking the city to legalize chickens.
