Beyond the Climate Blame Game

Despite some problems with the underlying analysis, the fact remains that a lot of money was spent by both sides of the debate over cap and trade, and in the end little was accomplished to address our energy and climate needs. We need to learn from that experience in order to try and not repeat past mistakes – and that’s what I believe Nisbet is attempting to do. The financial numbers for the Pew Center used in the report are [mostly] accurate. But problems with the analysis have been identified – and some groups say the report overstates the amount they spent in support of a climate bill. (The report also presents all lobbying money spent by USCAP companies, although clearly all their lobbying dollars did not go toward supporting a climate bill.) The report covers more than spending, and it includes insights that inform climate communications as the debate moves forward. ...
